Qantas Car Insurance is offering 50K bonus Qantas points on new policies with annual premiums above $1550! As someone who’s always looking for value in every corner of life, particularly on mandatory expenses, the recent offer was tempting enough for me to look into so I decided to dig deeper and share my findings and experience.
The Deal – Qantas Car Insurance
Qantas dropped a limited time offer (until 5/12/23. On annual premiums exceeding $1550, you would be credited with a huge 50,000 Qantas Points after 60 days of holding the policy. That’s enough to get any frequent flyer’s attention. For someone like me, who is always looking for ways to earn more points in an efficient manner, it got me intrigued enough to do so more research.
Price Comparison
Before switching, I needed to ensure that I wasn’t going to end up paying a lot more for the same coverage I was already getting. So, I put Qantas Car Insurance side-by-side with my current policy. After some thorough comparisons, it turned out that the pricing was very similar, which made the decision easier. If I wanted to opt for the same coverage I had with a different insurer, the cost was basically on par. I did however, include car hire on accidents as this would push me into the eligible criteria for the 50K bonus points ($1550 min annual spend). It’s important to note that after the points are awarded (after 60 days) you can reduce your policy if you wish. When factoring in the bonus points, which equate to significant travel value, the switch seemed like a smart move.
The Disadvantages
One main disadvantage surfaced: Qantas Car Insurance doesn’t automatically include roadside assistance. This is a service other insurers offer for free. While it’s possible to purchase this separately, it’s an additional step and expense that’s worth noting.
The Application Process
The process from start to finish was a straightforward 10-15 minute task. No complex questions just basic details needed. Add in an addition 5 minutes to cancel your exisiting insurance too.
Comparing the Insurance Policy
Beyond the enticing points offer, I wanted to ensure that I wasn’t going to compromise on the actual car insurance product. After a detailed review, all other aspects of the policy were in line with the market. Coverage options, excess amounts, and the fine print held no surprises; they were all fairly standard and comparable to my previous insurer.
The Final Verdict – Qantas Car Insurance
The decision to switch to Qantas Car Insurance feels like a strategic maneuver. Yes, there’s a slight trade-off with the exclusion of roadside assistance, but the gain of 50,000 Qantas Points presents a compelling argument for those who love to travel. If you know how to optimise those points at a redemption value of 6+ cents per point, those points can equal up to $3K of value!
